Autumn Term 2026: Portrait Drawing and Painting
This autumn, the focus will be Portrait Drawing and Painting.
Over 12 weeks, students will explore the foundations of portraiture through clear demonstrations, practical exercises, and individual guidance. The course will look at the structure of the head, proportions, facial features, tone, colour mixing, likeness, and developing a finished portrait.
The aim is to make portrait painting feel more understandable and achievable, while giving students the confidence to build portraits step by step.
Full timetable, venues, dates, and prices will be added here shortly.

Ed has been a great teacher, always gives positive praise, as well as constructive criticism and hints to make my painting better. He has taught me about colour, technique, medium, individual artists and the different genre of painting. I am forever learning with Ed and long may it last
Really look forward to Ed’s art classes. He has a great approach and he is able to guide, advise and support without criticism or negative comments. I always feel like I learn and pick up lots of helpful direction. Its a great way of learning and I would thoroughly recommend him as a valuable art teacher.
I’ve been to several of Ed’s classes. First, I really like his work, both drawing and painting. I’m sure it’s possible to learn from people even if you don’t much care for their style, but I like Ed’s draughtsmanship and use of colour. One of the best things, though, is that Ed is a really good teacher. So whatever your level and choice of materials, he is interested in what you do and wants to help you improve.
