What You Will Learn

Over 12 weeks, this course takes you step-by-step through the core principles of portraiture in both drawing and painting. You’ll develop the skills to capture likeness, structure, and character — whether working from life, photographs, or even your favourite animal companion.  After working from reference we will practice what we have learned with two sessions from a live model

✏️ Weeks 1–6: Drawing & Fundamentals

    • Proportion and structure of the head (loomis method)

    • Measuring and observational drawing
    • Likeness and facial features

    • Light and shadow: tonal values, planes and modelling form

    • Working from Photo Refrence

    • Introduction to oil painting with the Zorn palette

🎨 Weeks 7–12: Painting & Personal Projects

  • Developing a portrait from underpainting to finish
  • working from a live model
  • Master Copy
  • working from a live model
  • Animal Portraits i
  • Animal Portraits ii
  • Final Projects of your choice
💷 Payment

The full cost for this 12-week course is:

  • £285 for the daytime course in Ipswich, Felixstowe,Melton and Needham Market

  • £200 for the evening class at Martlesham

This covers all tuition and model hire for the final sessions.

To keep things simple, payment is made in full when booking.
If you’d prefer to pay in two instalments, that can be arranged on request — just get in touch.

If you need to miss a week, you’re welcome to attend any of my other classes as a catch-up (subject to space). Just let me know in advance and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

If I’m unwell or need to cancel a session, I’ll either:

  • Add a replacement session at the end of term

  • Or offer a credit toward next term

 

If for any reason I’m unable to run the course at all, I’ll issue a full refund.
